NewsLA rave to feature all-star DJsAmon Tobin, DJ Spooky, Cut Chemist and Peanut Butter Wolf are among the DJs who will spin tunes at a unique event to be held at Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall on May 26. The late-night, multimedia rave called Pravda will be the first of its kind to take place at the renowned classical concert hall designed by architect Frank Gehry, mastermind of the similarly striking Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. The DJs will remix music by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Mosolov to a backdrop of historic Russian film clips and live art installations at the event, which is being dubbed "a progressive exploration of the sounds, sights, and philosophies of the Stalin era." In addition to dancing and deejaying, the evening will feature a midnight performance by a 10-piece theremin orchestra in celebration of the birthday of the late Robert Moog. The inventor of the Moog synthesizer, his company also manufacturers theremins, widely considered to be the first fully electronic instrument. Stooges stage invasion at Glastonbury Iggy Pop brought his reformed band The Stooges to Glastonbury tonight (June 23) for a chaotic headline slot on the Other Stage - which resulted a huge stage invasion. And after the mainman invited some of the crowd up during 'Real Cool Time', NME.COM took the opportunity to join them briefly. The numbers started steadily rising until the whole stage became completely filled with enthusiastic punters. They didn't depart the stage until after 'No Fun', when the star politely asked everyone to go. By then there will still people queueing up to join the party. The band played tracks from new album 'The Weirdness', their first LP in 34 years, including 'My Idea Of Fun' and 'Not Right'. The biggest cheers were reserved for the band's old classics, such as set opener 'Loose', 'No Fun', '1969' and 'I Wanna Be Your Dog', which they played twice. The set was: 'Loose' 'Down On The Street' '1969' 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' 'TV Eye' 'My Idea Of Fun' 'Dirt' 'Real Cool Time' 'No Fun' '1970' 'LA Blues' 'ATM' 'Not Right' 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' |
